Memento Amber

The taxi kept driving down the road as it left the town. Kathleen settled back in her seat and looked out the window silently. The driver looked back at her and then back at the road in silence as the car stopped accelerating and steadied at a high speed.

“Where are you taking me?” said Kathleen in a cracky voice. The driver didn’t move and kept driving forward.

“Where did you come from? I thought you were dead?” Kathleen stared at the driver as he turned left on to a tree covered road without slowing his speed.

Some time passed until the driver spoke, “I thought you said you would wait for me? I thought you promised that you would?”

“I did wait. I waited for a long time. You were pronounced dead and I wanted to get on with my life.” said Kathleen.

“You promised… promised… you promised me! I remember that night as if it was the last night I lived!” said the driver who was speeding up and was not looking at the road. Kathleen started to scream as the road ahead seemed to quickly end.

“If I can’t have you, no one will!” The driver looked at the road and accelerated even faster.

“I didn’t say we-” The car went over the cliff and Kathleen screamed louder.

“I’ve watched you for years and you couldn’t wait for me?!” said the driver. The taxi slowly fell to the earth as Kathleen tried to open the door, but it wouldn’t open.

“I wish I had died all those years ago, that way I wouldn’t have had to suffer through all these years!” said the driver.

The car crashed into the ground front first as soldiers rushed over to the crash. The driver had vanished and Kathleen was badly injured.
